When they've been doing something for 116 years, you know they've been doing it right.
That's how long the Graettinger Labor Day celebration has been going on. Events kicked off Friday night and continue today through Monday. If you haven't seen the ad in the Spirit or Thursday's Daily News, here's a recap of some of the major events.
Today the demolition derby will be held next to North Valley Apartments starting at 4 p.m. Then join in on the pre-street dance party at Side Street from 6-9 p.m. The free street dance with music by Sideline Band will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
There's lots going on Sunday, but the event few people miss is the variety show and queen contest starting at 7 p.m. A teen dance follows at the American Legion with Sound Masters as DJ. Big Nacho Karaoke will be at Side Street 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Monday events start bright and early with the 5K fun run/walk at Bethel Lutheran Church. Crafts and other activities continue through the day with the Labor Day parade at 1:45 p.m.
There's no letup with events and games continuing through the day, with the celebration culminating with grand prize drawings 7 p.m. Monday night. Drawings will be held for a total $9,000 in cash prizes.
It's the last big event in the area for the summer, so don't miss out on the 116th annual Graettinger Labor Day celebration in downtown Graettinger.
