The Spirit Lake boys cross country team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday in spite of three top 10 finishes at the ELCAR Invitational in Estherville on Tuesday.
Algona edged the Indians 58 to 61 in the team standings.
Spencer finished third with 73 points followed by Humboldt with 96, Okoboji with 109, Bishop Garrigan with 128 and Emmetsburg with 232.
Will Norris won his third race of the season for the Indians as he finished 37 seconds ahead of the field in 16:30. Spencer's Ryan Bauermeister finished second in 17:07.
Also for Spirit Lake, Tanner Goetsch finished sixth in 18:07 and Mark Norlund finished seventh in 18:18.
Rounding out the scoring were Kyle Anderson in 19th place in 19:08 and Jared Brunsvold in 28th in 19:6.
Also Alec Harrington finished 30th in 20:01 and Kyle Kueper placed 32nd in 20:20.
Schmidt leads Indian girls
The Spirit Lake girls were again led by Dondi Schmidt. Although she improved by 44 seconds over her time at Estherville a year ago, she still finished fifth in 15:38.
The Indians finished third overall with 110 points. Spencer won with 61 points followed by Algona with 69. ELCAR placed fourth with 115, followed by Emmetsburg with 140, Pocahontas Area with 156 and Bishop Garrigan with 179.
Mariah Wills also made a top 10 finish in 16:08 as she placed seventh.
Meghen Wickham placed 23rd in 18:01 while Gracen Arms placed 37th in 19:16 and Ashley Brooks placed 38th in 19:20.
Also Rebekah Olson placed 44th in 20:16 and Jenny McCoy placed 46th in 20:25.
Spirit Lake travels to Emmetsburg next Monday.
