SPIRIT LAKE - Third-ranked Spirit Lake opens in district schedule against Forest City.
Both teams enter the contest with a 2-0 record. Forest city shut out Algona 29-0 and defeated Clear Lake 32-17.
"Forest City has a good team," said Spirit Lake coach Josh Bolluyt. "They're athletic and have good speed. They're explosive on offense. "
Bolluyt said the Forest City's offense is based more on what their quarterback and tailback does than Spirit Lake's.
"Defensively it just about reading our keys and attacking,' Bolluyt. said.
Colton Westerberg leads Forest City with 209 yards on 38 carries while quarterback Tate Thompson had 132 yards on 28 carries. Both have two touchdowns. Tate is 11-of-14 passing for 185 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Looking back at last week's 52-16 win over Storm Lake, the Spirit Lake coach said there is room for improvement.
"We did not have a great first half," he said. "We were down 7-6 at one point in the first quarter. We turned the ball over twice and had 100 yards of penalties in the first half.
"We need to be better at the mental part of the game," he continued.
That being said, Bolluyt did like the way his team played in the second half.
"We responded well and played much better as the game went on," he said.
