The end of summer is always a litter bittersweet. Sweet because it's still the tail end of summer. Bitter because there aren't too many warm days left.
Friday night the Black Knights Car Club of Estherville held its last cruise-in of the summer with cars from throughout the area coming for one last bash in Estherville before the annual airport drags 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at Northwest Iowa Regional Airport west of the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer.
Dave Olesen of Fenton drove his wife Betty's 2000 Mustang to Friday night's cruise-in. Betty also has a 1937 Plymouth with a 440 four-barrel with 350 horse while Dave has a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda with a 340 four barrel. Dave's also working on a 1934 Plymouth coupe which he plans on outfitting with a 440.

"That's been a project," Olesen said. "It's been about 10 years now."
So why didn't Dave drive his 'Cuda?
"This is kind of the car for going places," he said of the fuel-efficient V-6.
Say now. Considering how many custom car projects end up causing divorces, maybe Dave has the right idea. A car for Betty . . . a car for me . . . a car for Betty . . . a car for me . . . Since they both have two cars now, wonder who gets the next one . . .
