ELCAR runs to sixth place at Storm Lake

Solvin Jacobsin runs first varsity race; Woodyard returns to lineup

STORM LAKE - The Estherville Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted cross country teams competed in the biggest meet yet this season at Storm Lake on Tuesday.

The ELCAR girls' varsity team came away with a respectable sixth-place finish in the 14-team meet.

MOC-Floyd Valley won with 70 points followed by Spencer with 73, Unity Christian with 91, LeMars with 98, Algona with 99, ELCAR with 122, Spirit Lake with 125, Fort Dodge with 240, Denison-Schleswig with 298, Kuemper Catholic with 304, Sioux City East with 332, Storm Lake with 333, Manson Northwest Webster with 365 and Cherokee with 372.

ELCAR's top six runners were within 41 seconds of each other.

Macy Dahl led the way with a 19th-place finish in 17 minutes, 27 seconds on the 4K course. In her first varsity meet, Julie Solvin Jacobsin, finished 20th in 17:29. Heather Jacobson placed 23rd in 17:40, Rachel Bates placed 27th in 17:45 and Brianna Enerson placed 33rd in 18:01 to complete the scoring.

McKenzie Woodyard returned to the lineup for the first time this season and placed 36th in 18:08. Emily Jorgenson finished 84th in 21:16.

"Julie is a nice addition to the varsity and it was also nice to have Kenzie back," said ELCAR coach Tina Burton. "With our top six girls within 41 seconds of each other-it's awesome to have a nice pack. We just need to work on a front runner."

ELCAR boys running short-handed

The ELCAR boys team didn't have a full complement for this meet with one of its five participants, Kelly Clabaugh, out with a sprained ankle.

Lee Christensen led ELC with a 39th place finish in 18:57 on the 5K course. Nic Peters placed 66th in 20:21 while Martin Christensen placed 83rd in 20:55 and Adam Reiter placed 87th in 21:24.

"I think the boys struggled more tonight," said Burton.

ELCAR JV?Girls place fifth

The ELCAR Junior Varsity girls placed fifth overall.

LeMars won with 35 points followed by Unity Christian with 51, MOC-Floyd Valley with 75, Spencer with 106, ELCAR with 114, Denison-Schleswig with 147, Sioux City East with 199 and Fort Dodge with 219.

Paige Taylor led the JV with a 14th place finish in 19:52. Taylor Karels placed 24th in 20:23, Coral Franklin placed 25th in 20:24, Colleen Humble placed 27th in 20:28 and Hanna Newton placed 32nd in 20:46.

Also running, Kristain Peterson placed 64th in 22:53. Emilee Olson placed 69th in 23:09 and Emily Slaughter placed 78th in 24:07.

ELCAR travels to Sheldon next Tuesday.
