STORM LAKE - Running without the No. 1 rated runner in Class 2A, Will Norris, Spirit Lake finished third at the Storm Lake Invitational on Tuesday.
The Indians still had two top 10 finishes as Tanner Goetsch placed fifth in 17 minutes, 34 seconds and Mark Norland placed sixth in 17:38.
Also scoring for Spirit Lake, Kyle Anderson placed 20th in 18:18, Jared Brunsvold placed 46th in 19:07 and Kyle Kueper placed 52nd in 19:23.
Fort Dodge won with 85 points followed by Algona with 105, Spirit Lake with 126, Storm Lake with 130, Sioux City East with 131, Spencer with 135, MOC-Floyd Valley with 136, Unity Christian with 192, Kuemper Catholic with 199, Le Mars with 28, Manson Northwest Webster with 274, Denison-Schleswig with 283 and East Sac County with 299.
In the girls' race, Spirit Lake placed seventh.
Dondi Schmidt led the way with a fourth-place finish in 15:58 while Mariah Wills placed sixth in 16:095. Also Meghan Wickham placed 35th in 18:04, Ashley Brooks placed 37th in 18:12 and Gracen Arm placed 43rd in 18:25.
Non-counting scores, Rebekah Olson placed 53rd in 18:58 and Kristen Salzwedel placed 71st in 20:02.
Spirit Lake travels to Sheldon next Tuesday.
