Today from 1-4 p.m., reenactors will show how things were done in the good ol' days at the annual Peterson Point Pioneer Day at Peterson Point east of Wallingford. Peterson Point is just south of the Emmet County Nature Center on County N40.
Events include blacksmith Lawrence Hacker of Petersburg, Minn.; Mark Johnson, a Civil War reenactor from the Twin Cities and originally from Spencer; Carol Armstrong of Spirit Lake who will demonstrate quilting; and Belva Henrickson of Estherville who will demonstrate spinning; and possibly a woodwright.
This is a wonderful way to show your kids and grandkids how things used to be done - before the days of Internet and cell phones and instant messaging. Back in the days when people only had what they could make, trade or find from nature.
To get there from Estherville, take Highway 9 east two miles then N32 south four miles to A33. Go east three miles to N40 and go two miles south then left at the 'T' and follow N40 just past the Emmet County Nature Center to Peterson Point.
From Wallingford, take County A34 east four miles and take a right at the 'T'.
Refreshments will be available. Donations are also welcome. Donation boxes will be located on the property.
