September 17, 2012
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

Estherville Lincoln Central students taking the ACT college admission test bettered the Iowa state average, with a 23 school composite compared to 22.1 for the state.

Results are for current seniors who took the test as juniors.

ELC High School Frank Christenson announced the test scores at the monthly board of education meeting Monday night.

Other statistics were:

n English - 22.3 ELC, 21.6 Iowa average.

n Math - 22 ELC, 21.7 Iowa average.

n Reading - 23.9 ELC, 22.5 Iowa average.

n Science - 23.2 ELC, 22.2 Iowa average.

Saying they were great results, Christenson also noted last year ELC was below state average in every category while this year students were above the state average in every category.

He also said 35 ELC high-school students took the test last year. He said a smaller percentage of students take it than elsewhere as most ELC students attend Iowa Lakes Community College which does not require an ACT score.
