Estherville Daily News

Each year the Good Samaritan Society-Estherville along with several area businesses and individual sponsors invite the community to attend their annual benefit dinner.

The dinner will be at the Elk's Lodge, 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21. The entertainment will feature Glenn Henriksen on the piano. Tickets may be purchased at Good Samaritan or by calling 712-362-2070.

There are several purposes for the dinner; to raise awareness of the role that Good Samaritan Society plays in the surrounding communities,

To celebrate the Good Samaritan Society heritage, to remember the local community leaders who had a vision for a "home" for the area's elderly and invited Good Samaritan into the community, and to remember those donors in the early days that made it all happen, as well as recognizing and celebrating the current donors who are helping to make improvements at the center today, to honor the staff who care for the residents at Good Samaritan, and to raise funds for current projects at the center.

Last year at this time the center directed gifts from the benefit dinner to a fund to be used for new furniture in the front lobby that goal has been met and the furniture will soon be ordered.

The center also received several donations that were used to purchase items needed at the center such as; a wheel chair scale, mechanical lift, training manikin, shower chairs, and outside seating. And the most visible piece of equipment that was purchased with donations was the ice cream machine, which the residents, their families and the staff all enjoy. This year the proceeds from the Benefit Dinner will be used to update and coordinate the sitting area by the bird aviary and the TV area outside the dining room.

This year at the dinner the Good Samaritan Society will honor the memory of Cecillie Black and celebrate the many ways she blessed the center during her short stay in Estherville.
