Algona swim team ties for fourth

DES?MOINES - The Algona Girls Swim Team tied for fourth place Saturday at the Polar Bear Invitational in Des Moines scoring 142 points. Des Moines Hoover won with 218 points followed by Des Moines North with 178 and Storm Lake with 159. Perry also had 142 points.

Fininshing second was Hannah Priest in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.

Third place was Maddie Stubbs in the 100 butterfly

Fourth place finishes went to Nicole Kenne in the 200 free, Stubbs in the 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay team of Williams, Stubbs, Priest and Erica Carlson.

Placing fifth were the 200 free relay team of Stubbs, Carlson, Williams and Priest and the 400 free relay team of Carlson, Plathe, Hamilton and Kenne

Sixth places went to Leah Hamilton in the 200 and 500 free, Kenne in the 100 free and Alyssa Williams in the 100 backstroke

Eighth place went to Emma Plathe in the 100 free, Micheala Christian in the 500 free, Erica Carlson in the 100 backstroke and Abby Strohman in the 100 breaststroke.

Ninth place went to Emily McMahon 200 IM, Plathe in the 50 free and Conner Yi in the 100 butterfly.

"We had a good meet, with some personal best times and placed someone on the medal stand in every event which we had never done before," said coach Jim Fisher. "Leah Hamilton swam the 500 free for the first time and placed which is good. Everyone seems to think they can't do it until the first time, but I tell them that they do it in warmups everyday."

Next up is a double dual at Storm Lake on Thursday night.
