LONGMONT, Colo., - Janet Marlene (Lilland) Williams died of pneumonia on Sept. 25, 2012, after a long battle with cancer; she was 71.
Janet was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Dolliver to Oswald and Hulda (Rood) Lilland. She grew up the second of four children on the family farm. She was a 1959 graduate of Dolliver High School and studied chemistry and biology at Estherville Junior College in Estherville.
Janet enjoyed a lifelong career she loved as a hospital histology lab technician. In 1969, she moved from Iowa to Longmont, Colo., to join the original laboratory team at Longmont United Hospital from which she retired in 2009.
On Dec. 11, 1971, she married Gene Williams in Longmont and welcomed her daughter Jennifer in 1977.
Janet was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and she participated in all facets of 4-H through most of her life. In her spare time, she loved gardening, baking, and sewing.
She is remembered as a loyal, thoughtful, kind, hard-working, and intelligent person who was devoted to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene on Dec. 15, 2010, daughter Jennie on July 6, 2011, brother Richard Lilland and a beloved uncle Louis Rood.
Janet is survived by her sister Sharon Walker (Joe) of Centerville, IA, brother Robert Lilland (Marsha) of New Prague, MN, sister-in-law Patty Sharp of Thornton, CO, stepsons Jeff Williams (Freddie) of Mead, CO, and Alan Williams of Aurora, CO, and several step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont. Cremation will be at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
