A Fairmont, Minn., woman was killed Wednesday following a car accident approximately four miles north of Gruver at the intersection of 130th Street and 460th Avenue.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens reports the call on the personal injury accident came at 11:14 a.m. Wednesday.
Upon investigation at the scene, it was determined that the eastbound 2003 Chevrolet registered to and driven by 61-year-old Debra Kay Rooney of Fairmont, Minn., left the south edge of the roadway near the intersection of 130th Street and 460th Avenue and then crossed the roadway to the north on 130th street where the vehicle rolled over throwing the driver from the vehicle. Rooney was transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville by the Estherville Ambulance Service where she was later pronounced dead.
Also involved in the accident was a Ford/New Holland tractor pulling a John Deere Disk Ripper driven by 64-year-old James Fisher of rural Estherville. The tractor had stopped at the intersection of 460th and 130th street and turned west on 130th street just prior to the accident. There was no contact between the vehicles and Fisher was not injured. The accident remains under investigation. Also assisting at the scene was Emmet County Conservation, the Estherville Fire Department and Gruver Fire Department.
