Estherville Rotarians Thursday caught a glimpse of the OK Corral when Doc Sievert offered an informative talk about handguns of the Wild West from their beginning until today.
Sievert classified the Western-style revolvers that you now see as one of three types:

Unfortunately, it can be difficult for even experts to determine which are which. For example, Sievert showed one revolver once deemed fake that could very well be original.
Revolvers made a big leap from the black powder guns of the Civil War, evolving into the Peacemaker. Sievert's oldest model was an 1848 Dragoon cavalry gun.
Sievert also talked about a Tri-S gun safety he's invented that's virtually invisible from the outside of the gun, preserving its value while still making it safe.
