Warriors pull away from Titans

GRAETTINGER - A scrappy Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire team stole one game from visiting North Union, but the visiting Warriors were too much in the end as they left Graettinger with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-8 victory on Thursday.

North Union was leading 12-9 midway through the second game when the Titans put together a 9-1 run. North Union fought back within two points after an ace serve by Maaike Waiser made it 21-19.

But the Titans closed out the match with a 4-2 run ending on a kill by Morgan McGrauth.

The Titans kept the momentum to start the third game with a 5-2 lead, but the Warriors came up with five kills on a 6-0 run that included two by Madison Bollig and one each from Colette Haag, Jasmine Clausen and Allie Ingalls.

North Union continued to pull away taking a 24-14 lead on another kill by Bollig. After two points by the Knights, a serve error gave the Warriors the win.

The final game was all about the serving of Waiser. After jumping out to a 4-2 lead, she served 11 straight points which included six of her eight aces on the night.

With a comfortable 16-2 advantage, the Warriors cruised the rest of the way with Aurora Oliver ending the match with her 10th kill on the night.

Bollig led the Warriors with 11 kills while Haag also had 10.

North Union served 16 aces led by Waiser's eight while Clausen had five.

At the net, Oliver had five blocks and Sara Johnson and Bollig each had four.

Libero Cheyanne Boland led the backrow defense with 22 digs while Allie Ingalls had 10 and Clausen had nine.

Waiser has 21 set assists and Ingalls had 13 assists.

The Titans' attack was led by Marly Bakken and McGrauth with five kills apiece. M arly Bakken had five kills.

Alyssa Hoffman had five service aces and 13 set assists. Bakken had two ace serves.

Defensively, Cassy Hampson had 16 digs, McGrauth had 13 digs, Katie Noah had 12 and Amanda Aeilts had eight. Flaharty had six blocks and McGrauth had one.

North Union (18-13 overall) is at the St. Ansgar Quad next Thursday, Oct. 11.

GT/RA (4-20 overall) is on the road against Laurens-Marathon on Monday.
