Rising faster than a forward operating base in a war zone, the new Dollar General Store at its new location at 17th and Central that was nothing but earth a little over a month ago will open its doors to the public Saturday. The store is relocating from its current quarters just across and down the street.
Manager Becky Olk said the new store took 30 days to build with five to six days for stocking.
Customers will immediately notice a larger food section as well as apparel. Wider aisles are designed to accommodate two carts at a time.

"It's more spacing for customer shopping convenience," Olk said.
There's an entire section of baby formula and other items as well as more seasonal and holiday items. Olk said with its expanded grocery section the store will be able to take EBT cards. Customers will also find a large section of vitamins and health and beauty aids.
There's also a large greeting card section with a large book section, kids aisle with toys and the Christmas section is filling up nicely.
Customers will have more checkouts for speedier shopping.
The store has a 7,100-square-foot floor area and another 2,000 square feet of storage space. Customers will enjoy the large concrete parking lot with handicap parking and there's even a lawn irrigation system for aesthetics.
Store hours will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., an hour later than previously.
The grand opening is set for Saturday, Oct. 27.
