Hawks fly past Warriors after first quarter

HARTLEY - The North Union Football Team struggled in a 55-6 loss to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Friday.

The Warriors started well enough trailing 13-6 after the first quarter.

Cody Runksmeier had an 83-yard kickoff return for the Warriors.

But that was the highlight of the night.

HMS racked up 547 yards rushing while holding North Union to 41.

The Warriors attempted 10 passes with just two completions for 12 yards and three interceptions. The Hawks didn't need to pass much and competed one of three attempts for 9 yards and one interception. Runksmeier led the Warriors with two carries for 34 yards. Jacob Braddock did all the passing.

Jake Adams caught both passes for 12 yards.

Garrett Johnson led the defense with 12 tackles while Tyler Anderson had 10 tackles, Austin Minnmann had eight and Aric Runge had seven.

North Union (1-7 overall) is home against winless Okoboji on Friday.
