It was a beautiful night on Tuesday evening, Oct. 16 when the Emmet County Conservation Board hosted its annual Creatures of the Night Hike at the Emmet County Nature Center.
Over 100 hikers and volunteers participated in the event. A total of 84 hikers departed the Nature Center in several groups and were led around the jack-o'-lantern-lit prairie.
Hikers were entertained by several creatures of the night including Dr. Doolittle, a salamander, spider and moth. Cole Anderson gave an informational presentation on white-tailed deer and offered a sample of deer meat to the hikers.
Smokey the Bear was a special guest of honor at the Creatures of the Night Hike Tuesday night at the Emmet County Nature Center.
Smokey the Bear made a special appearance and refreshments were served to conclude the evening. Erickson's Produce donated pumpkins for the event.
The High Lakers 4H gclub helped carve the pumpkins and served delicious goodies and hot cocoa. A special thank-you goes out to Erickson's Produce, the High Lakers 4H group, Smokey the Bear (Blair Martyr), Cole Anderson, the Sophisticated Salamander (Kevin Olson), Dr. Doolittle (Sue Schneider), the Spinning Spider (Sarah Morphew) and the Mystified Moth (Alan Morphew) - along with all the wonderful volunteers and hikers that helped make the event a success.
