Algona swim team wraps up regular season

CHARLES CITY - The Algona High School Girls Swim Team placed fourth at the Charles City Quad on Tuesday night, scoring 106 points.

"The girls swam okay at first glance but after looking at the times we set two team records, had seven personal best times and had 12 of 30 entries beat the seed time so it wasn't as bad as it looked at first," said Algona coach Jim Fisher. "The team had hoped to finish second but it was a good competitive meet."

First place went to Maddie Stubbs in the 200 individual medley and Hannah Priest in the 100 breaststroke.

Second place went to Stubbs in the 100 butterfly and Nicole Kenne in the 500 freestyle.

Priest placed third in the 50 freestyle/

Fourth place finishes went to the medley relay team of Alyssa Williams, Priest, Stubbs and Erica Carlson, the 400 freestyle relay team of Carlson, Leah Hamilton, Emma Plathe and Kenne and Kenne in the 200 free

Placing fifth was the 200 freestyle relay team of Carlson, Stubbs, Mackenzie Wilson and Priest.

Earning sixth-place finishes were Hamilton in the 200 freestyle, Emily McMahon in the 200 individual medley, Williams in the 100 butterfly, Carlson in the 100 backstroke, Abby Strohman in the 100 breaststroke and the 200-medley relay team of Casey Harms, Strohman, Conner Yi and Wilson.

Stubbs set records in the 100 fly and Kenne in the 200 free.

The personal bests included Hamilton in the 200 free, Jordan Allen in the 500 free, Sophia Kaduce in the 100 free and McMahon in the 100 breaststroke.

Priest is ranked 46th in the state in the 100 breaststroke and 84th in the 50 free while the 200-medley relay is 43rd, the 200 free relay is 46th and the 400 free relay is 47th. Shelby Brindley is 85th in diving.

The Algona Swim Team travels to Fort Dodge on Saturday, Oct. 27 for the regional swimming meet. Diving takes place on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Fort Dodge.

Editor's note: The Algona Swim Team consists of participants from Algona, Estherville Lincoln Central, Emmetsburg and Bishop Garrigan. Senior Mackenzie Wilson is ELC's lone swim team member this season.
