Schmidt, Wills lead Indians back to state

Spirit Lake takes third at district

HOLSTEIN - Dondi Schmidt and Mariah Wills led the fifth-ranked Spirit Lake girls cross country team back to state as the Indians finished third with 93 points at the Class 2A District Meet in Holstein on Monday.

Schmidt finished second in 15 minutes, 58.59 seconds while Wills placed fourth in 16:907.81. Rounding out the scoring, Megham Wickham placed 26th in 17:45, Rebekah Olson placed 29th in 17:48 and Ashley Brooks placed 34th in 17:51.29. Also Gracen Arms placed 39th in 18:03.12 and Jenna McCoy placed 60th in 19:45.77.

Third-ranked Unity Christian won the meet with 43 points while unranked Western Christian placed second with 66 points.

Sioux Center finished fourth with 113 followed by Sheldon with 140, George-Little Rock/Central Lyon with 170, Okoboji with 198, Woodbury Central-Kingsley-Pierson with 199, Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto with 267, Boyden Hull-Rock Valley with 269, Cherokee with 278 and Ridge View with 314.

The Class 2A Girls Cross Country Meet takes place at 1 p.m. at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
