Estherville Lincoln Central presents: STARMITES

The New York Sunday Times review of 'Starmites' states, "You do not need to be a science fiction buff to enjoy Starmites. The only prerequisite is that you be, or once were young."

The Estherville Lincoln Central High School Music and Drama departments will present the musical 'Starmites' at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3 at Roosevelt Auditorium. Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children. Patron of the Arts, Workers, Senior Citizen and Student Activity Tickets will be accepted. The play is directed by Amy Condon and Steve Bradburn

Starmites, a musical comedy, debuted on Broadway in the 1980s and was nominated for six Tony Awards. It revolves around a young girl Eleanor Fairchild (Maddy Burns) who isn't quite accepted by her peers. One night she is whisked off to Innerspace, the world of her favorite comic book.

There she has to help the superhero, Space Punk (Brad Olsen), and his gang of rebels, the Starmites, defeat super villain Shak Graa (Kyle Marks).

In order to do so they must battle the Banshees (described as Amazonian women with dangerous hairdos) and their leader, Diva (Bobbi Hansen), to find the Cruelty, a weapon of soul crushing power. The Starmites believe that the girl, Eleanor, is the prophesized "Milady" who will defeat Shak Graa and save the Earth and Innerspace.

Starmites is a musical with music and lyrics by Barry Keating and a book by Stuart Ross and Barry Keating.

A special note for the Friday performance: Midget Maniacs will have a costume contest during intermission. Come to the show in custom. The cost is $1 to enter with multiple prizes.
