ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Ruby Weir, 96, of Spirit Lake will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with Rev. Chad Ensz and Rev. Kennen Barber-Ensz officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.
Ruby Weir, the daughter of John and Mary (McCombs) Systma, was born July 15, 1916, in Bussey-Marion County.
On Oct. 21, 1935, she was united in marriage to Stanley Nickles in Muncy, Pa. To this union their son Stanley was born. The couple lived and farmed near Jackson, Minn. On Aug. 24, 1936, Stanley died suddenly while swimming. On September of 1938 she was united in marriage to Harold Weir. To this union, three children were born, Joyce, Susan and Jeff. The couple lived near Estherville for many years. Harold died on Sept. 30, 1991. Ruby stayed on the farm well into her 80's until her health declined. Most recently, she had been living at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.
Left to cherish Ruby's memory are her children, Stanley Nickles and his wife, Marlene, of Farmington, Minn., Joyce Cuklanz and her husband, Harlan, of Wilbraham, Mass., Susan Halstead and her husband, Tim, of Mankato, Minn. and Jeffrey Weir and his wife, Deb, of Estherville; nine grandchildren, Kaylene (Nickles) Peterson, David Nickles, Ava (Nickles) Lynn, Lisa Cuklanz, Nathan Halstead, Jason Halstead, Tony Halstead, Cory Weir and Kaimy (Weir) Roskam; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Warren Systma and his wife, Darlene, of Hutchinson, Minn., Opal Carlson of Trimont, Minn. and Annabelle Peton of Estherville and many nieces and nephews.
She has been preceded in death by her first husband of one year, Stanley Nickles; her husband of 52 years, Harold Weir; grandson, Jeremy Weir; two brothers, John and Garth Systma and six sisters, Violet Sundahl, Helen Davis, Bernice Walsh, Edith Olson, Maxine Foster and Bonnie Searcy.
Ruby was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.
