To the EDN:
In the wake of Sandy's devastation of the East Coast, the Red Cross returned to Estherville on Tuesday, Oct. 30 for a blood drive at the Christensen Center of Iowa Lakes Community College. The blood drive was the 20 (something) annual drive sponsored by the Aviation Club. So, a big 'thank you' to our future pilots for carrying on this wonderful tradition of giving.
We did have one brand new donor, Remia Metteer, who told me that she would donate again and again. Thank you, Remia. Esther Paulsen received her 3 gallon pin and Gilbert Amdahl his 4 gallon pin. Denis Johnson was awarded her 10 gallon pin. Combined, these three donors have been able to impact over 100 lives with their generosity. Such a small thing, such a big payoff.
There were many new names on the sign in list: Zachary Kleinwolterink, Heather Rein, Jessica Vanlay, Joseph Olka, Austin Johnson, Gordon Graver, Christopher Willouts, Ashley Weston and Joshua Young.
If you were a first time donor and I missed thank you and welcoming you, please now accept my apology and thank you for becoming a blood donor. Remind me when you come to the next blood drive on Feb. 14, 2013 at the Duhigg Center so I can properly say "Thanks."
And a big THANK YOU to the many donors who filled the ARC donation can. I will turn that money in at the November ARC board meeting. Did you know that the Red Cross is mandated by the federal government to respond to every emergency and disaster? Yeah we gotta go and help BUT the only way your Red Cross can do this is with your continued financial assistance.
So, thanks again Estherville for another successful blood drive and we'll be back on Valentines Day.
