SPIRIT?LAKE?- The Spirit Lake wrestling team opened its season by splitting a pair of non-conference duals on Thursday.
The Indians fell 36-33 to Sheldon/South-O'Brien and defeated Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 51-24.
Against the Orabs, Spirit Lake won three contested matches.
At 145 pounds, Zach Skopec pinned Gunner Klinker in 33 seconds; Kenten Murray (152) pinned Brian Klein in 1:09 and David Trucksess won 5-2 over Brytton Kelleher.
Spirit Lake's Roberts Gage (106), Doug Miner (106) and Cody Norton (285) received forfeits.
In other contested matches, Ben Parks (132) lost by fall in 56 seconds; Tyler Glinke (138) lost by fall in 1:23, Justin Jones (170) lost by fall in 2 minutes and Javier Tapia (182) lost by fall in 4:24.
Against the Lions, Spirit Lake had seven pins. Parks (132) won in 43 seconds over Tanner Robertson; Skopec (145) won in 1:26 over Zach Fugitt; Murray (152) won in 47 seconds over Andrew McCarty; Trucksess (160) won in 42 seconds over Ben Friedrichsen; Brady Mart (220) won in 50 seconds over Trenton Enger; and Norton (285) won in 53 seconds over Sam McCarty.
Also Miner (126) won a 9-2 decision over Colby McIntire.
John O'Neal (113) received a forfeit.
In other contested matches, Gage (106) lost by fall in 41 seconds; Ethan Bergendahl (138) lost by fall in 1:25 and Trevor Bueltel (195) lost by fall in 1:16.
Spirit Lake is at the Okoboji Invitational today.
