State Senator Jack Kibbie was recognized by the Iowa Hospital Association as 2012 outstanding legislator of the year in the Iowa Senate. Kris Ausborn, president of the Palo Alto County Hospital Board of Trustees, presented the award to him at the Trustee meeting on Nov. 28.
"We are honored to present this award to Senator Kibbie", commented Kris Ausborn. "Jack has always been available to discuss issues important to our local hospital as well as hospital issues throughout Iowa. We will miss his representation in the Iowa Senate."
Throughout his long tenure in the Legislature, Jack has always been a strong advocate for rural health care issues and in particular has been a tremendous advocate for public hospitals across the state. Senator Kibbie retired at the end of the 2012 session, though his enthusiasm for policy and politics is likely to continue in new endeavors.
First elected to the Iowa General Assembly in 1961, Jack was re-elected in 2008 to his seventh term in the Iowa Senate.
He served two terms as Senate President and represents District 4, which includes Emmet, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas and Humboldt Counties.
