Donations sought for classroom libraries

December 5, 2012
Estherville Daily News

Letter to the Editor,

The ELC elementary, grades Kindergarten through fourth grade, have been utilizing their professional development time to learn about The Daily Five. The Daily Five is a literacy program wrote by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser ("the sisters"). It is a structure that will help students develop daily habits of reading, writing, and working with their peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy. Part of The Daily Five includes each classroom to have a student library. The expense to fill each elementary classroom with books is enormous. Most of our households are filled with children's books. Here is your chance to clean up your bookshelves! We are asking for donations of used or new books. Donations can be dropped off at the Demoney School office. From there we will disperse the books amongst the kindergarten - fourth grade classrooms. A huge thank you in advance for your donations! We also want to give a big thank you to Fick's Ace Hardware for giving us a huge discount on the tubs needed for our classroom library. It was greatly appreciated!

With appreciation,

Tara Laabs and Melissa Leonard
