ARMSTRONG - North Union gave Class 1A No. 4 Newell-Fonda, but the Mustangs pulled away in the second half for a 49-34 victory.
The Warriors jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first quarter, but then trailed 22-17 at the break.
The visitors stretched their lead to 33-23 to star the fourth quarter. North Union got within eight early, but then Newell-Fonda took charge.
"They knocked down a few more shots and force more turnovers," said North Union coach Merle Tigges, who said his team had some unforced turnovers that hurt them.
Jasmine Clausen and Dena Looft each finished with seven points to lead the Warriors. Sara Rolling had five points and six rebounds and Madison Bollig had four points and five rebounds. Aurora Oliver also had four points, Peyton Olson had three and Madison Irmiter and Cheyanne Boland each had two. Clausen, Oliver and Boland each had two assists.
North Union (3-1 overall) hosts Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire this evening.
