Eagles too much for Lakers, 76-30

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Iowa Lakes women lost 76-30 to Kirkwood on Saturday.

The Eagles jumped out to a 39-10 lead in the first half.

Myangel Johnson led the Lakers with seven points, Alyssia Winston had six, Sunday Duop had five, Ashleigh Dykes had four and Shabreka Edwards, Carla Barrera and Leah Courtney each had two points.

Duop finished with nine rebounds and Dykes had four assists.

Iowa Lakes (5-9 overall, 1-3 in the conference) hosts 17th-ranked DMACC at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.

Miner takes seventh at tournament

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Zach Skopec, Doug Miner and Kenten Murray led Spirit Lake Park at the Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester, Minn., this past weekend.

At 138 pounds, Skopec had two pins, two major decisions and two decisions. He was 5-2 on the weekend.

Miner finished seventh overall at 120 pounds. He finished 3-2 overall with a pin, a major decision and a decision.

Murray went 2-2 at 145 pounds with two decisions. David Trucksess finished 2-2 at 152 pounds as did Javier Tapia at 170 pounds.

Spirit Lake Park travels to a double dual at Graettinger This evening along with Sioux Center.

Indians cruise past CWL Panthers

CORWITH - The Spirit Lake boys jumped out to a 25-8 first-quarter lead on the way to a 63-39 win over Corwith-Welsey-Luverne on Saturday.

The scoring slowed in the second quarter with the Indians leading 33-15 at halftime. Spirit Lake led 52-30 after three quarters.

Alec Henrickson led the Indians with 15 points while Paul Brown finished with 10 points and nine assists.

Alex Pringnitz finished with nine points and five rebounds while Zach Arneson had eight points, Sam Harms and Cole Thate each had six points, Tyler Alger had five points and Trevor Smith and Blake Enderson each scored two points.

Spirit Lake (4-3 overall) was at Harris-Lake Park on Monday. The Indians play at Estherville on Friday.

Wolfpack surgest past Spirit Lake

HULL - Spirit Lake jumped out to an early lead against Western Christian on Friday, but couldn't hang on in a 51-39 loss.

The Indians led 9-6 after one quarter, but trailed 20-19 at halftime. The Wolfpack pulled away with a 17-7 third-quarter to lead 37-26.

Alec Henrickson led Spirit Lake with 18 points, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Paul Brown finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Alex Pringnitz tossed in five points while Zach Arneson had four and Tyler Alger had two.

No. 1 Wolfpack defeats No. 4 Indians

HULL - Class 3A No. 4 Spirit Lake suffered its second loss of the season as Class 2A No. 1 Western Christian won 57-35 on Friday.

Western Christian led 15-11 after one quarter and 28-24 at halftime. But the Wolfpack burst out with an 18-2 third quarter.

KJ Veldman led Spirit Lake with 10 points.

Brooke Wolterstoff led the Wolfpack with 16 points.

Spirit Lake (6-2 overall) travels to Estherville on Friday to take on the Midgets (7-1 overall), who are ranked third in Class 3A.
