The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced that Winter Aeration systems have been started at the following lakes:
n Five Island Lake (Palo Alto County)
n Ingham Lake (Emmet County)
n Center Lake (Dickinson County)
n Silver Lake (Dickinson County)
n Clear Lake (Cerro Gordo County)
n Crystal Lake (Hancock County)
n Rice Lake (Winnebago County)
Use extreme caution on lakes with aeration systems. These systems create open water to reduce the likelihood of a fish kill during harsh winter conditions it but also creates an area of thin ice surrounding the aerator that should be avoided.
