Indians pull away from E’Hawks

EMMETSBURG - For the second game in a row, Spirit Lake used a late surge to get past an opponent on Tuesday. The victim on this night was lakes Conference rival Emmetsburg.

The Indians led 11-10 after one quarter and 24-15 at halftime with the E'Hawks cutting the deficit to three, 29-26, to start the final frame.

Spirit Lake used a 15-6 period in the 44-32 victory.

Senior guard Paul Brown led Spirit Lake with 15 points and five assists. Cole Thate scored eight points while Alec Henrickson had six, Alex Pringnitz had five, Sam Harms had four, Trevor Smith had three, Zach Arneson had two and Tyler Alger had one.

Spirit Lake was 13-for-19 from the free throw line. Harms had a team-high eight rebounds and Arneson had two steals.

Spirit Lake (8-3 overall, 3-3 in the Lakes Conference) travels to Spencer on Friday.

Dau scores 21 to lead Indians

EMMETSBURG - The Spirit Lake girls were again without leading scorer KJ Veldman, but the Indians didn't need her in a 58-20 win over Emmetsburg on Tuesday.

Emma Dau paced Spirit Lake with 21 points.

Spirit Lake (7-3 overall) is on the road against Spencer on Friday.
