GRAETTINGER - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls hung with visiting Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer for a while, but the visiting Indians pulled away late in the second quarter and continue keeping the pressure on in the second half.
When the dust settled, the visitors had a 66-41 victory on Thursday.
GTRA coach Todd Hough said his team did some nice things at the end of the first quarter to rally from a 9-2 deficit and tie the game at 9-9.
"But toward the end of the first half, we didn't box out very well on free throws," he said.
The Indians led 36-25 at the break and opened the third quarter with a 6-0 before Grace Skattebo hit a pair of free throws. Brooke Hoffman then hit two 3-pointers as the Titans got within 45-33. Lauren Flaharty, who had 13 points in the first half, her only points on a 3-pointer right before the end of the third quarter, but GTRA trailed 53-36.
The Titans couldn't get the ball to fall in the final period, scoring just five points all from the free throw line.
Flaharty led GTRA with 16 points while Hoffman finished with nine. Emily Moran had seven points, all in the first half while Cassy Hampson, Katie Olesen, Morgan McGrauth and Skattebo each had two points. Alex Olesen had one point.
GTRA (3-10 overall, 2-4 in the Cornbelt Conference) hosts Corwith-Wesley-Luverne in Ruthven this evening.
