ELC battles tough in home finale

Midgets fall to E’Hawks, Bulldogs

While still giving up three weights, Estherville Lincoln Central had its most complete lineup of the season in the Midgets' final home duals of the season on Thursday.

ELC put on a decent show, but fell 41-32 to LeMars and 39-33 to Class 1A No. 2 Emmetsburg.

Four ELC wrestlers went 2-0 on the night-Oscar Ramirez (132), Blake Gjerde (145), Billy Snyder (152, 160) and Grant Lausen (160, 170).

Ramirez and Gjerde were both on the mat less than a period.

Ramirez pinned LeMars' Cody Sherlock in 30 seconds and Emmetsburg's wrestler in 34 seconds.

Gjerde pinned LeMars' Tyler Hoffman in 54 seconds and Emmetsburg's Caige Elbert in 54 seconds.

Wrestling at 160 against LeMars, Snyder won a 15-0 technical fall over Juan Hernandez and then pinned Emmetsburg's Joe Schmidt.

Lausen wrestled LeMars Kyle Williams at 170 and won in 30 seconds and then received a forfeit at 160 pounds from Emmetsburg.

Other wins against LeMars included a 13-9 decision by Jake Bortvit over Mitch Timp and Chase Bonner (220) pinned Alex Hermes in 3:23.

In other matches, Easton Gifford (106) lost by fall to Nic Madsen in 3:20; Joel McCoy (113) lost by fall in 2:58 to Tanner; Alex Molacek (126) lost by technical fall, 16-1; Thomas Bortvit (138) lost 5-4 to Skyler Gries; Lee Christensen (152) lost by fall in 1:48 to Chris Haman.

ELC forfeited at 195 and 285.

Other wins against Emmetsburg included a 12-10 decision by Gifford over Dillon VanOosbree; and Budach (120) received a forfeit.

In other matches, Molacek lost by fall in 51 seconds to Nick Merwald; Thomas Bortvit (138) lost 3-0 to Tyler Leuer; Thomas Bortvit (170) lost by fall to Nick Schany; and Bonner lost by fall to Tayler Wegner.

ELC forfeited at 182 and 195 with the teams both forfeiting at 285.

ELC is on the road for a tournament in Hayfield, Minn., on Saturday.
