ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Marie Haukoos, 104, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor David Bergstrom and Pastor Norman Erickson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only on Wednesday. Interment will be at Walters Cemetery in Walters, Minn.

She died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Marie Haukoos was born Jan. 15, 1909, to Charles and Minnie (Borner) Soost in Hawarden. She moved to Wells, Minn. in her teens. She graduated from Alden High School, Alden, Minn. Marie also graduated from Estherville Junior College and Mankato State University. On Sept. 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Wallace Haukoos of Walters, Minn. She taught for many years in the Superior Public Schools and Estherville Public Schools until her retirement in 1974. Marie was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, Christian Women's Club, Sons of Norway and Lutheran Women's Circle.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; son, Marlin; brothers, John Soost, Walter Soost and Elmer Soost and sister, Elsie Hauskins.

Left to cherish her memory are husband, Wallace Haukoos, of Estherville; sons Donald and (wife) Marilyn Haukoos of Willard, Mo., Gerry Haukoos of Bloomington, Ill. and Merlin Haukoos of Oakland, Iowa and (special friend) Marlene Lindeman; grandchildren Lisa McMullen of Seattle, Barry and (wife) Kristina Haukoos of Minneapolis, Tanya Merkel of Woodstock, Ill., Brian and (wife) Stephanie Haukoos of Burnsville, Minn., Carlenda and (husband) Reid Goslin of Macomb, Mich. and Bradley Demarais of Seattle; and great-grandchildren: Alec McMullen, Christopher and Kaelyn Talbot and Erica McMorris. Brother Edward and (wife) Bessie Soost of Wells, Minn.; sisters-in-law Mrs. John Soost, Mrs. Harry Lindeman and Margaret Haukoos and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Iowa Hospice, Rosewood Manor or the Estherville Lutheran Church.
