ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Romain Hanson, 82, of Estherville will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor David Bergstrom officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

He died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Elmer Romain Hanson, the son of Andros and Sylvia (Heggen) Hanson, was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Ellsworth Township, Emmet County.

Romain grew up in Emmet County and received his education at Maple Hill and Gruver schools. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Germany.

On Aug. 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Cheryl J. Fischer at Estherville Lutheran Church. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Romain worked at Supersweet Feeds, John Morrell & Co. and Sears Delivery. He also drove school bus for Estherville schools and had the country mail route for the United States Post Office. Romain enjoyed antique and classic cars and volunteering for the Emmet County Historical Museum. Most important to Romain was spending time with his family.

He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church where he volunteered for many church activities and maintenance and also was caretaker of Estherville Lutheran Cemetery for over 20 years. He was also a member of the VFW and Antique Auto Club.

Left to cherish Romain's memory are his wife, Cheryl, of Estherville; daughter, Roxanne Hevern, and her husband, Lyle, of Estherville and their children, Adam, Alex and Allison Hevern; siblings, David Hanson and his wife, Delores, of Schofield, Wis., Phillip Hanson and his wife, Sharon, of Fairmont, Minn., and Phyllis Book and her husband, Ron, of Sandpoint, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Verna Hanson of Emmetsburg, Kathryn Hanson of Mason City and Lila Hanson of Minneapolis and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He has been preceded in death by his son, Marcus Hanson; granddaughter, Ashley Hevern; parents and siblings, Marvin and Peggy Hanson, Norris Hanson, Arden Hanson, Joseph Hanson and Marilyn and Paul Hagen. Online condolences may be sent to
