Isaac Gerdes has joined the Estherville Good Samaritan Society as administrator effective Dec. 17.
Gerdes oversees 127 employees on the Good Samaritan Society Estherville campus which includes the care center plus Friendship Terrace and Parkview Terrace and Heritage Landing in Milford.
Gerdes grew up in the Sioux Falls, S.D. area and played baseball for two years at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D. before receiving his health services administration degree from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.
Upon graduation, he entered the Good Samaritan Society's administrator-in-training program, doing stints in Red Oak and Villisca then assisting at Indianola before taking his current position.
"We have a really loving staff here," said Gerdes, who said he wants to continue to do the great job with residents that the staff has been doing in carrying out Good Sam's mission of providing a caring, Christian atmosphere for residents.
"It's just amazing how much you see that the staff cares for the people that are here," said Gerdes. "The staff is absolutely great to work with. They really dedicate their lives to it."
For the future, Gerdes hopes to continue to see good community backing. "The more we can be in the community, the better," he said.
Gerdes noted that Good Sam is also doing a great job providing therapy for those who need help getting back on their feet and back into the community. Therapy includes helping those recuperating from knee, hip and stroke therapy.
"We strive to do it and we do it really well," Gerdes said.
