Emmet County information technology coordinator Amy Sathoff told Estherville Rotarians Thursday about upgrades in the courthouse computer system.
Sathoff said when she started with the county a couple years ago the servers were already showing their age, with the backups not working the way they should. She contacted Iowa Counties Information Technology which did a free technology assessment of the county's needs.
From the assessment ICIT developed a plan which the county adopted, all part of a pilot project.
The county upgraded to new servers and wiring, bringing in the law center which was not on the system previously. As sheriff Mike Martens explained it, computers had been added on to the old system, making it obsolete.
Sathoff agreed, saying taxpayers had to wait in line - something they didn't have to do after the upgrade.
She said one more phase in the upgrade is coming with another server in his department.
"It's just a huge improvement," Martens said.
