Estherville Lincoln Central Board of Education members Monday night heard a presentation from the Prairie Lakes AEA administrator about AEA services.

Jeff Herzberg said 80 percent of AEA services dealt with special education while another 10 percent addressed media technology and another 10 percent with professional development.

Herzberg said he wanted Prairie Lakes to more actively market its print and production department and to also get parents more involved. Another goal is more technology integration.

When elementary principal Justin Bouse asked about student behavior services, Herzberg said Prairie Lakes had advertised for two behaviorial specialists. He said the agency will offer a continuum of behaviorial consultation services, including on-site assessment and training.

While discussing the child-care budget, superintendent Tara Paul said the district was trying to contact people to pay their debt. She said the child-care center is not making enough to pay the debt it has already incurred. The district has closed its infant room and will close the center entirely at the end of the school year.

The board set a public hearing date of 5:10 p.m. March 18 for the district budget.

Regional Wellness Center director Bob Grems said the RWC board was considering establishing an endowment fund through the Emmet County Community Foundation/Northeast Iowa Community Foundation to establish a sustaining fund.

In other business, the board:

n Approved third and final reading of board 200 series policies.

n Approved third and final reading of a policy approving GASB accrual accounting for governmental fund balances.

n Held second reading for 300 series policies with third and final reading coming in March.

n Kept staff mileage reimbursement at 39 cents a mile.

n Approved a fiscal 2014 budget guarantee resolution that allows a minimum 1 percent increase in spending authority from the current year.

n Set 5:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 for a board work session on early outs for the 2013-14 school year.
