Feb. 16-23 is National FFA Week

February 15, 2013
Estherville Daily News

Feb. 16-23 is National FFA Week, a time to recognize the efforts of FFA youth and the advisors who guide them.

In Emmet County, FFA is very much alive and well, with chapters at both Estherville Lincoln Central and at North Union. This year's theme is Grow, and it celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions while eagerly anticipating the organization's future. More than 550,000 members nationwide will participate in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels. These members come from rural, suburban and urban environments and are interested in the diversity of careers within agriculture.

FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. Through agricultural education and hands?on learning, they are preparing for the more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry.

If you have a son or daughter in FFA, thank you for supporting your child's activities. If you have a son or daughter about to enter high school, think seriously about encouraging him or her to join this vibrant organization that's on the cutting edge of agriculture and its related industries.

If you're a business, consider supporting FFA as a key component of your marketing strategy. After all, Iowa leads the nation in many areas of agriculture, so by supporting FFA youth, you're directly supporting our economy.

All our thanks should go to FFA youth, their advisors and the schools that have the vision to maintain FFA and ag careers as an integral part of their curriculum.
