FORT DODGE - After bouncing back into the top 10 in the rankings, the eighth-ranked Iowa Lakes men suffered a 63-61 overtime setback to Iowa Central on Saturday.
The Tritons (17-12 overall, 7-6 ICCAC) took a 62-61 lead in overtime, but the Laker (21-6, 10-3) turned the ball over.
After the Tritons milked the clock a missed shot went out of bounds to Iowa Central. The Lakers fouled and the Tritons missed both foul shots, but Iowa Lakes couldn't come up with the game'-winning basket.
The Lakers had led 33-28 at halftime, but Iowa Central just wouldn't go away in the second half. A jumper by Kelly Madison tied the game at 57-57 with 25 seconds left in regulation. Iowa Central got a final try as Jaleel Gray was fouled as time expired, but he missed both free throws to send the game into overtime
Both teams shot around 40 percent. While the Lakers were more efficient at the free throw line, 14-of-17, the Tritons had more where they were 13-of-26.
Ben Shellim led the Lakers with 20 points while Madison had 14, Deondre Parks had nine, Josh Schaben had six, Colton Neff had five, Diamontae McKinley had four and Kevin Larson had three.
Iowa Lakes hosts Quakerdale Prep Academy at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lakers wrap up the regular season at home against Ellsworth on Saturday.
