Midgets open outdoor season

The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team finally got in an outdoor meet on Thursday after their meet at Cherokee was postponed.

The Midgets hosted Spirit Lake Park and Spencer in an informal meet.

"I'm thankful to (activities director) Brad Leonard for helping put this meet together in just a couple days," said ELC coach Dick Barrett. "We were just happy to get a meet in."

Barrett reported results and some places from the meet.

In the long jump, Dan Christensen leapt 17 feet, 11 inches and Kyle DeVary leapt 17 feet, 5 inches.

"Those are two good freshman jumps," said Barrett.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Joe Heinrichs, Blake Gjerde, Rodrick Fuller and Evan Hansen finished in 8 minutes, 57.5 seconds to place third.

Nic Peters took first in the 3200-mter run in 11:06.5 and Tristan Fales was fourth in 12:30.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Alec Wycoff, Michael McCauley, Matt Burrell and Justin Heinrichs finished second in 1:03.8.

In the 100-meter dash, Andres Blanco finished in 11.9 seconds and Martin Christensen in 12.4 seconds.

Joel McCoy finished third in the 400-meter dash in 60.8 seconds.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Derek Nieland, Burrell, Reiter and Blanco won in 1:36.9.

McCauley finished the 110-meter high hurdles in third place in 17:15 seconds.

Joe Heinrichs and Lee Christensen both ran career-best times in the 1600-meter run. Heinrichs finished in 4:54 and Christensen in 4:58.

In the 200-meter dash, Wycoff finished in 24.9 seconds and DeVary in 25.3 seconds.

Justin Heinrichs won the 400-meter hurdles in 58.9 seconds and Burrell was second in 59.06 seconds.

The medley relay team of Martin Christensen, Reiter, Tyler Swanson and Fuller finished third in 3:56.

Lee Christensen ran the 800-meter run in 2:16.5 and Gjerde finish in 2:18.5.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Wycoff, Justin Heinrichs, Reiter and Blanco placed second in 47.8 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Joe Heinrichs, Martin Christensen, McCoy and Hansen clocked a time of 3:59.

ELC is scheduled to travel to Spirit Lake on Tuesday.
