CHEROKEE - The Estherville Lincoln Central girls' tennis team pulled out its first win, edging Cherokee 5-4 on Monday.
The Midgets won four matches in singles play. Starting at the No. 3 doubles, Samantha Rosinger defeated Lauren Yearous 10-5; Amber Schacherer won 10-0 over Angela Linezey, Mackenzie Wilson won 10-1 over Abby Luback and Emily Jorgenson won 10-1 over Kristen Gerhardt.
The key win came in doubles as the No. 3 doubles team of Rosinger and Jorgenson won 100-0 over Luback and Gerhardt.
In other singles play, Baiulye Hagen lost 10-4 to Megan Carlson and Madison Burns lost 10-7 to Megan Hummel.
In doubles, Hagen and Burns lost 10-4 to Carlson and Hummel while Schacherer and Wilson lost 10-5 to Yearous and Linzey.
"We played well as a whole and I like the way our younger girls are playing," said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. "Our no. 1 doubles is still learning to play together. They just need to clean up some unforced errors and they'll be all right."
In junior varsity play, Kaylee Nissen picked up an 8-1 victory. In other singles, Rachel Mueller lost 8-2, Taylor Nissen lost 8-1 and Emily Origer lost 8-4.
In doubles, Kayle and Taylor lost in a tiebreaker 9-8 (8-6). Mueller and Jorgenson lost their doubles match 8-3.
ELC is scheduled to host LeMars on Thursday.
