The committee is looking to improve the aesthetics of the bridge and its usability. That includes widening at least of the sidewalks along the bridge.

The committee has set aside $91,20 for the design phase of the project.

The Bolton and Menk project team will facilitate a kickoff meeting with city staff to accomplish the following:

n Review and confirm and scope and nature of the proposed bridge enhancements

n Review any special conditions regarding the Iowa DOT, Department of Natural Resources and other jurisdictions.

n Conduct a field review of the project area and bridge conditions by project team members and city staff.

Other parts of the process include a public open house and presentation of bridge concepts.

Following the open house, designs drawings will be refined based on public comment and the final schematic plans will be developed along with a cost estimate and a construction phasing plan for various elements of the bridge.
