SPENCER - For the second night in a row, the Estherville Lincoln Central girls' tennis team dropped a close match.

This time it was Spencer getting the 6-3 victory over the Midgets.

"We didn't quite as crisp as the night before, but we still played pretty well," said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. "Mackenzie (Wilson) played some of her best tennis all year in spite of a loss."

In singles play, ELC's No. 1 Bailey Hagen recorded her first win of the season with a 10-8 victory over Kate Wilkerson. At the No. 2 singles, Maddy Burns won by the same score over Piper Swanson.

The first close match to go Spencer's way came at the No. 3 singles as Samantha Rosinger lost 11-10 (7-3) to Tiffany Lovan. At the No. 6 singles, Emily Jorgenson also lost a close match, 10-8, to Kayla Shark. In other singles, Amber Schacherer lost 10-4 to Kelsey Staple and Mackenzie Wilson lost 10-4 to Emily Burns.

In doubles, Hagen and Wilson teamed up and lost 10-7 to Wilkerson and Lovan. Burns and Schacherer then won 10-5 to Swanson and Staple. At the No. 3 singles, Rosinger and Jorgenson lost 10-6 to Emily Burns and Jenna Nissen.

"Part of the problem is we haven't been outside and able to work on some strokes," said Kirchner. "In doubles, we're struggling to get the lobs in-either hitting them short for an easy point at the net or too far out the back."

ELC players will have to learn on the fly as the Midgets travel to Spirit Lake for the Lakes Conference meet today and then to LeMars on Monday.

ELC had a full junior varsity for the first time this season and lost 6-3.

In singles, Kaylee Nissen lost 8-6, Rachael Mueller lost 8-2, Taylor Nissen lost 8-6, Emily Origer lost 8-1, Macarena Cibran lost 8-6 and Laura Perez lost 8-0.

In doubles, Kaylee and Taylor won 8-4, Mueller and Origer lost 8-5 and Cibran and Perez won 8-5.
