The Iowa Lakes Women's Golf Team was in action Friday and Saturday at the Region 11 Tournament.
For the Lakers after round one Sam Mueller was tied for 10th individually with an 89, Tressa DeBoer was tied for 13th with a 90, and Taylor Heinrichs was tied for 18th with a 94.
"With windy conditions the course played tough but the women battled," said Iowa Lakes coach Andy Soper.
On Saturday there were the best conditions all spring. Mueller fired another 89 rounding her two-day total of 178 to place 11th. Heinrichs had a better day shooting a 90 to move up to finish in 17th place with a two-day total of 184. DeBoer shot a second day round of 98 to put her two-day total at 188 finishing in 21st place.
Mueller's 11th place finish qualifies her for the NJCAA Women's National Tournament that will be held in Mesa, Ariz. May 13-17.
"Overall it was a good tournament for us," said Soper. The women played good competition. It's a great accomplishment for Sam to get back to the National Tournament. I believe she is the 38th or 39th National Qualifier that Iowa Lakes has had since my dad took over in 1995-1996.
"It is also tough saying goodbye to Taylor, she has worked very hard both on the course and in the classroom she will be greatly missed," the coach continued. "Tressa had a good first day and I look forward to seeing what she can do as a sophomore. All three of these women are great people and it shows with what they do in the classroom."
