ELC’s improved play not enough

SL/O wins 8-1

Estherville Lincoln Central gave Spirit Lake/Okoboji a better contest, but the Midgets fell 8-1 to the visitors on Thursday.

The No. 2 doubles team of John Reisner and Tim Soper got the only win for ELC as they defeated Tyler Schmitz and Hunter Andreeson 10-7.

Reisner also played a good singles match at the No. 2 spot, but lost 11-9 to Andrew Ites.

"Overall we played well and won the most games we've won all year although it was disappointing to not win more matches," said ELC coach Tony Klein. "John played really well today. He almost pulled out the singles and played really well in doubles helping us get a win."

In other singles, Brad Olsen lost 10-5 to Brandon Stoll, Levi Jensen lost 10-5 to Tristan Weidow, Thomas Bortvit los 10-2 to CJ Kent, Soper lost 10-6 to Schmitz and Jacob Olson lost 10-2 to Michael O'Brien.

In doubles play, Olsen and Bortvit lost 10-7 to Ites and Weidow and Jensen and Olson lost 10-8 to O'Brien and Ryley Smith.

In junior varsity action, Brandon Sharar played two singles matches, losing the first one 8-0 and winning the second 8-3. Kyle Marks and Koby Schubert both lost their respective singles matches 8-0.

In doubles, Sharar and Marks lost 8-0 and Marks and Schubert lost 8-4.

ELC is on the road at Spencer on Monday.
