For any athlete, an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games is a life-long dream. For a Graettinger man working to fulfill that dream, friends in his hometown are putting together an effort to help make that dream come true.

Jared Enderton graduated from Graettinger-Terril High School after a successful prep athletic career that included a state championship in wrestling for the Knights. Moving on to attend college, Enderton earned All-American honors and Academic All-American honors as he earned bachelors' degree in exercise science from the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating from college, Jared began a career in fitness and personal training, earning memberships and certification by the American Council on Exercise and USA Weightlifting Sports Performance.

Enderton opened a training facility in Graettinger as well, assisting students at Graettinger-Terril with weight training, as well as personal fitness training. And, in his career as a fitness instructor, Enderton has published over 100 articles relating to fitness and nutrition on websites such as and

After qualifying to compete in weightlifting in the 2011 World University Games in China, Enderton began working out and training for an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games.

Such an ambitious goal requires not only a tremendous amount of self-discipline and hard work, but also considerable financial support. For two years Enderton trained in San Francisco and in Las Vegas in the hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games.

But in a cruel twist of fate, Enderton actually made a qualifying lift in the competition to set the Olympic weightlifting squad, but his lift was overturned by judges, leaving him on the outside looking in. However, his desire to represent the United States has not diminished. Enderton recently moved to Colorado Springs, home of the U.S. Olympic Training Center, in his bid to earn a spot on the 2016 Olympic team.

While he is not living at the Training Center, Enderton is working to earn a position on the squad that will house him at the Training Center.

To help Jared with the financial requirements of his quest, friends in his hometown are banding together to host a fundraiser called the "Lifting Dreams Prom." This fundraising event is set for Saturday, May 4, at the Graettinger American Legion.

The event will feature a catered dinner and dance, complete with a Grand March for the attendees. Dinner tickets have been sold out, but the Grand March will take place at 7:30 p.m., with the dance slated to begin at 8 p.m. and continuing until 12 midnight. As the event is billed as a "Prom", formal attire is encouraged, but not necessary for attendees.

A special raffle of a Green Mountain Grill is also being conducted as part of the event and the winner need not be present to win the grill.
