CHEROKEE - It's only the fifth outdoor meet of the season for Estherville Lincoln Central and the Midgets have still come a long way in the weather-shortened season.
ELC came away with one Lakes Conference champion at the conference meet on Monday.
Caitlyn Clayton launched a career-best throw of 41 feet, 2 1/2 inches to win the shot put.
"Congrats to Caitlyn for being conference champion," said ELC coach Tina Burton. "I hope she can throw another like that on Thursday."
The Class 2A District Meet is Thursday in Emmetsburg.
Clayton had a career-best throw in the discus with her toss of 107 feet placing fourth.
Also placing fourth was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Jordan Phillips, Payton Platt, Rachel Bates and Megan Jensen in 1:17.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Bates, Brianna Enerson Coleen Humble and Cydnie Jo Anderson placed fifth in 11:09.
Also the distance medley team of Taylor Greig, Carson Gjerde, Jayden Feller and Emilee Olson placed sixth in 5:07.
'That was a personal record for the four freshmen," said Burton.
Also Alicia Jorgenson placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in 28.49 seconds.
Burton said other notable performances included Bates in the 400-meter hurdles with a person record in 76 seconds. Another group that didn't medal, but showed improvement was the 4x200-meter relay team of Jorgenson, Enerson, Kayla Jensen and Greig.
"We did a lot of good things with several personal records," said Burton. "This was typical for our fifth outdoor meet and our freshman are figuring out how to compete.
'I hope we come out Thursday with the same ambition," she said of the upcoming district meet. "The Lakes Conference is tough and I give lots of credit to the other teams and coaches."
