To the EDN,
On April 30 the Red Cross returned to Estherville for one of the six blood drives held here in Estherville each year. The Red Cross provides for four of the drives and the other two are taken care of by Avera Holy Family Hospital. It's so nice to live in a city where we can all work together for the common good.
At the Red Cross drive, sponsored by Dr. Baker and Dr. Webb, at the Eyecare Centre, we were able to collect 65 units of much-needed blood, as Iowa Red Cross had sent 500 units to Boston following the tragic event there. Those 65 units equate to helping save 195 lives. So much for so little!!!
We saw some new faces: Melissa Patrick, Dr. and Mrs. Drew Shain, Janet Bendixen and Miranda Lyster. I am pretty sure that I missed a couple of new faces and I hope you will say hi when you return to give at the next blood drive on July 30.
Donors who earned gallon pins were: Liza Baker, one gallon; Walter Jensen, three gallons; Barb Mack and Tina McCorkell, four gallons; Cheryl Houseman, five gallons; Terry Reekers, six gallons; and Dave Egeland, 10 gallons. I'm pretty sure that each of them has given more than I have listed, but my records only go back to when we were transferred from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to the Badger Hawkeye group in Waterloo.
The next blood drive here in Estherville will be at Avera Holy Family Hospital, probably sometime in June. The next Red Cross blood drive will be on July 30 at the Duhigg Center and sponsored by the good people of the Estherville Lutheran Church. The times will be the usual 12:30 until 6:30. If you want to make an early appointment give me a call at 209-0922.
Thank you for being such a generous community. I am very proud to call Estherville my home.
