DES MOINES - The Spirit Lake Park boys' track team came up with two medals in the first day of competition at the 2013 State Track Meet on Thursday.
The Indians' 4x800-meter relay finished third and Will Norris placed sixth in the 3200-meter run.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Mark Norland, Tanner Goetsch, Paul Woizeschke and Norris finished the 4x800 in a season-best time of 8 minutes, 3.51 seconds for the third-place finish.
Pella won the event in 7:58.79 while Bishop Heelan was just 21 hundredths ahead of SLP to place second in 8:03.30
In the 3200-meter race, Norris didn't have his best time of the season has he finished in 9:36.72. Boone had the top two runners in the event with Albert Meier winning in 9:18.93 and Austin Chandler finishing in 9:20.05.
In the only other event for the SLP boys, Bryson McCabe competed in the 100-meter dash preliminaries where he finished 14th in 11.73 seconds.
There were no medals for the Spirit Lake Park girls' team, but the Indians had four events competing on Thursday.
Jenna McCoy finished tied for 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.
The 4x800-meer relay team of Taylor Sieperda, Dondi Schmidt, Emma Dau and Mikaela Heikens finished 13th in 10:20.50.
Sieperda finished 17th in the 400-meter dash preliminaries in 1:01.14.
The Indian track teams will have a busy day as they compete in nine events.
