DES MOINES - With six events competing, the Spirit Lake Park boys' track team kept busy throughout the afternoon of the second day at the Class 3A State Track Meet.
After earning two medals in the first day, the Indians earned another on Friday, this time in the distance medley relay. SLP also qualified its 4x100-meter relay team for today's finals.
The medley relay team of Bryson McCabe, Austin Folsom, Blake Enderson and Mark Norland finished seventh in 3 minutes, 36.93 seconds to earn their seventh-place finish. Centerville won the event by a few tenths of a second, finishing in 3:31.38.
Meanwhile the 4x100-meter relay team of Tyler Peterson, Folsom, Cody Poock and McCabe had the eighth finals qualifying time of 44.28 seconds. South Tama County had the best time in the preliminaries of 43.02 seconds.
The Indians 4x200-meter relay team didn't fare as well, placing 17th in 1:32.99. That foursome was the same as the 4x100-Peterson, Folsom, Poock and McCabe.
Individually, Poock took 13th in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 9 inches. All the medalists in 3A threw 50 feet or above with Mount Pleasant's Emmett Wester throwing 58 feet, 1 /2 inches to win the event.
Folsom finished 21st in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Clear Lake's Chandler Diercks won that event with a leap of 22 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
The Spirit Lake Park boys will compete in three events today. Will Norris will run in the 800-meter run at 10:50 a.m. and then will be joined by Norland in the 1500-meter run at 2:01 p.m. The 4x100-meter relay finals starts at 3:20 p.m.
