DES MOINES - The Spirit Lake Park boys' track team added three more medals in the final day of the 2013 Track and Field Meet on Saturday.
The Indians' best event was the 1600-meter run as Mark Norland finished fourth in 4 minutes, 21.31 seconds and teammate Will Norris finished fifth in 4:23.30.
Two runners from Boone, both of whom surpassed the state meet record in the event, demonstrated the toughness of the Class 3A field. The previous best was 4:15.99 set in 2004. Boone's Chandler Austin won the vent in 4:15.65 while teammate Albert Maier was close behind in 4:15.69.
The Indians also earned an eighth-place medal in the 4x100-meter relay as Tyler Peterson Austin Folsom, Cody Poock and Bryson McCabe finished the 3A final in 44.77 seconds.
Norris also ran the 800-meter run and finished 22nd in 2:02.55. Centerville's Payton Busch won the event in 1:55.43.
Overall, Spirit Lake Park finished tied for 14th in Class 3A with 14 points.
Schmidt medals in 1500
On the girls' side, Dondi Schmidt was the only Saturday competitor for Spirit Lake Park.
The junior finished fourth in the 1500-meter run in 4:55.31. Waverly-Shell Rock's Anna Holdiman set the state meet record in the event in 4:41.35-eight seconds faster than the second-place runner.
